Robert Winslow’s The Cavan Blazers, is the story of 19th century religious conflicts among settlers in Cavan Township, Ontario. This production of The Blazers effectively revived an almost forgotten regional history, and exposed it to the public gaze for reconsideration and re-evaluation. The play focuses on the Irish immigrants who settled Ontario’s Cavan Township. In spite of shared roots, religious tensions erupted in bloodshed, the legacy of which is carried to this day. This work was critically and publicly acclaimed as both engaging and relevant to a contemporary audience, and received national media attention, including a feature on CBC’s The Journal.
